How to Care for Your Skin Before, During & After a Workout

How is 2019 so far? Did you hit the gym? Started a healthier lifestyle? Or maybe you just continue your workout and routine as usual?

Whether you decided to spend more time at the gym or spend more time outside, you may want to take some extra steps to ensure your workouts will not have a negative impact on your skin.

Exercising can give your skin that healthy glow, but it can also cause breakouts if you don’t maintain a proper skincare regimen. Sweat and dirt can clog pores during a workout, leading to breakouts and blackheads.

Exercise should be good for every part of your body – including your skin. Here are some tips on how to achieve.

Before Workout

Follow these simple steps to prepare your skin for the workout:

Cleanse

Dermatologists around the world agree that it is not a good idea to wear a make-up. Dirt, bacteria and sweat accumulate on the skin during a workout. You’re more likely to experience a breakout if you start your workout with dirty skin. Try these great gentle cleansers.

Tone

Toner is especially helpful for people with oily or acne prone skin, but it’s beneficial for all skin types. It helps to remove any additional oil the cleanser left behind and minimizing the appearance of your pores. Using a toner prior to exercise will help eliminate that build up swear and dirt and shrink the pores to be less noticeable on your face, even when you sweat.

Moisturize

You cleaned your skin, used a toner and now it is time for a lightweight moisturizer. Even combination or oily skin will benefit from using an oil-free formula.
If you plan to exercise outside, don’t forget your SPF.

Makeup

Go makeup-free for your workout. However, if you really need some coverage on your face, try a BB cream which will help to prevent clog pores.

DuringWorkout

Your skin is now ready for your workout. But is it enough?

Wipe it down

If you exercise in a gym, pay special attention to the equipment you’ll be using. Exercise machines are a source of bacterias. To avoid breakouts wipe down all equipment you use with antibacterial wipes before use and avoid touching your face during your workout.

Hair band

Use a hair band to protect your skin from additional oil or future breakouts. If you have short hair, you may opt for an elastic headband. Just wear it on the hair line and not a forehead.

We get a lot of questions about wearing a sweat band across their forehead. Is it a good idea to wear it? Actually, it can cause the pores to become clogged and create post-workout acne can occur, leading to scarring and redness so it is better if you forget about their existence.

Pat it down

Do not wipe the sweat off your face with your bare hands. Use a clean towel to dry the sweat off.

Hydrate from inside and outside

Keep drinking water during your workout, every 15-20 minutes depending on intensity of your workout.

Post Workout

Cleanse

You should wash your face as soon as possible following your workout. Start with an oil cleanser and then follow up with a foam cleanser.

Did you go for a jog and are back at home? If yes, then think about introducing an exfoliator into your skincare routine. Just remember it should be used maximum 2-3 times a week. It will remove dead skin cells that build up and eliminate excessive oil that has been secreted from your pores.

It is all about hydration, hydration and even more hydration

The 7 skin method can come for a rescue. Simply layer up hydration to maximum using a hydrating toner or essence toner.

Moisturize

Skin can feel hot and red after a workout. Apply a gentle moisturizer following your cleanse to help soothe the skin. If you have naturally dry skin or want to help irritated and thirsty skin, use a facial oil or oil serum. Such treatment will help replenish and moisturize the skin.

If you have some spare time apply a sheet mask which will lock all the good ingredients in your skin, make it cooler and fresher.

If you workout in the evening you may consider a sleeping pack.

We hope these tips will help keep your skin and clear and glowing!
