During our visit at COSRX HQ in Korea we talked about upcoming trends in the beauty industry. Here is some inside!
Karolina: What are two skincare must-have products everyone should have in their everyday skin care?
Among numerous products, if I had to choose two skincare must-haves, I would choose the chemical exfoliator which refines skin texture, and moisturizer which provides necessary nutrients and moisture to the skin. A chemical exfoliator can provide many positive effects to the skin. 1. It softens the skin texture 2. It opens the pores and unclogs the pores to prevent acne, pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads 3. It brightens the overall skin tone 4. It removes dead skin cells which can boost up skin’s natural turnover cycle and prevent signs of aging.
A moisturizer enables the skin to gain the necessary nutrients and moisture to the skin which helps prevent wrinkles and rough skin texture. In other words, it helps to create smooth glossy skin.
Karolina: If you were asked to give one advice on skincare, what would it be?
When using a chemical exfoliator, it is recommended to use it with a cotton pad to gently clean the face. You can get the most desired outcome from physical exfoliation and chemical exfoliation with a cotton pad. Also, please do not use too many products in the same routine or too much of a certain product. Instead, apply the product in thin layers so that you can feel more deeply moisturized for a long time.
Karolina: What do your customers look for?
Korean consumers are sensitive to new information and are very interested in beauty in general. This high level of intelligence in beauty and ingredients is what takes K-beauty to another level. Due to this, the K-Beauty industry was able to develop rapidly and innovatively. Also, high-quality products are everywhere in the market as everyone in Korea is looking for products made with gentle ingredients and outstanding technology.
Karolina: What are the biggest upcoming Korean skincare and beauty trends?
The biggest beauty trend is that a vast variety of products are being offered in sets or in miniature sizes at reasonable price points for Korean consumers who are interested in beauty. Hence, products are becoming diversified to allow consumers to try out new and innovative products.
Another leading trend in is skincare ‘diet’. Instead of using a wide range of products to fit all the steps in so-called “10-step Korean skincare”, people focus on just using the products that they need. This not only considers environmental pollution issues such as minimizing the use of plastic, but also relieves the stress on the consumer side by helping them truly enjoy the products in their hands. The trend is to take a minimalist approach when it comes to beauty.
