Here is the second part of Jorge’s journey in discovering K-Beauty. On this occasion, he talks about his skin routine and the latest K-Beauty discoveries.

My skin routine

In my experience, and this is something that, although I don’t like the word, can be considered a piece of advice, skin routine should be something fun and easy. We should not get too stressed about it. We all know the rules, we all know we should use sunscreen every day, wash our face every night, not forget about those antioxidants… But we all have a life and the moment it becomes an obligation, I can guarantee you’ll stop doing it. Find that place and that “me” time for you to enjoy, no matter if you take 5 minutes or 15. Appreciate the process, look at the mirror and see how much difference is making.

My AM skin routine

These days, now that the 40s are approaching faster than the Millennium Falcon going to another galaxy, I tend to mix the nurturing and hydrating basics of K-Beauty with other strong active ingredients specifically designed for people of my age or older.

In the morning, after a gentle cleanse (Lagom Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser is a revelation), I go straight into my antioxidants to protect my skin against free radical damage and photo-ageing –vitamin C generally, but I love CoQ10, green tea and superoxide dismutate- before going into hydration. I tend to layer a lightweight toner like the new Sioris Feel so Fresh toner, a hydrating serum rich in Beta-Glucan like JKosmmune Recovery Serum and Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), great at controlling my sebum and giving my collagen production a boost.  To finalise, I seal it with a very lightweight moisturiser, perfect for my oily skin. At the moment, I’m using the Lagom Cellus Mild Moisture Cream, which is perfectly lightweight, but drier skin types might prefer something with more body. And of course, and this is not negotiable a sunscreen. That’s your number one anti-ageing product.

My PM skin routine

At night, I’m going from protection to reparation. Yes, sometimes I use my strong tretinoin (vitamin A) as it’s the anti-ageing gold standard ingredient, but I also love giving my skin a good rest and all the love it’s asking for. This is where I think K-Beauty is so good. To start with, the concept of double cleanse; first with an oil-based cleanser to get rid of SPF, makeup, etc. This is followed by a water-based one to complete the cleansing process. I started very recently and I can’t tell you how much difference has made to my skin. The combo of Heimish All Clean Balm and Sioris Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser has been a total winner!

It’s at night when I come with all the hydration and nurture, and even with masks that can help me get that glow and softness my skin sometimes is asking for. It’s when I take my time, to make skincare a therapeutic moment after a long day at work. Some days I include some salicylic acid exfoliating toner to clean my pores, as this is, after ageing, my second biggest concern, but most of the time I follow the same principle of hydration: a richer toner, like the new Klairs Fundamental Ampule Mist, which is hugely hydrating, followed by my favourite hydrating serum. I’ve been recently obsessed with sleeping masks, and most specifically the Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Spa Overnight Mask, and the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask. I always wake up shining bright like Riri’s diamonds in the sky.

General tips

Think about those two or three concerns that you have and use the right products without overdoing it. For me, it’s all about sebum control, pore refining and fine lines, but yours might be different and they’ll require a different approach. As a human being you’ll evolve, and your skin will do with you. Either way, always remember to treat your skin gently and with respect and have fun. It’s going to be the most rewarding journey!
